Wi-fi, how I love you!!!

Today I experienced the biggest amount of excitement since moving into this house--we finally fixed our wi-fi! I literally squealed with joy when I saw that it was working. Solitude, here I come! So be prepared for some more regular blogging (though they may be accompanied by pictures with lines through them--at least for the next two weeks--long story).

You don't even understand how excited I am. I am sitting on my bed right now, in occasionally broken silence with my roommate as we both drink tangerine Emergen-C from our water bottles, reveling in the fact that I can sit and listen to MySpace music. Cannabis College by the creativeness of fantasy husband number one, Jason Mraz. Then I interrupted the glorious silence in the room to exclaim to my roommate: first, that Joshua Radin has new songs, then that one of them is with Ingrid Michaelson, and then that they're touring together right now. It turns my insides into confusion, because I'm so ecstatic to hear their music and read their updates and disappointed that I am not seeing them in concert, nor am I likely to for a good long time! Oh yeah, and did I mention that Jason Mraz is going to Australia? Yeah, like, he's either right there now or he'll be there soon. Eek! My concert life has suffered, and I cannot wait to give it a jumpstart again. Oh Seattle concerts, how I miss you! Ann and Jon, I hope you've been livin' it up for me!

Anyway, I feel as though I'm reconnecting to my world again. Silly as that sounds, but for some reason sitting and searching for new music, being connected to my blog and my email at any point of the day or night makes me feel so much more at home. Even though I never had internet at my old apartment....it's strange how the internet can make me feel like I'm at home. But it connects me to the people most important in my life via email, blog, and even telephone. I miss you guys!

Now on to the writing...

Last day in Kuching (Borneo)

Fun fact. I quit my job. Or rather, I'm taking a pause. When I said there were a lot of reasons I was ending my contract early, it was true. Around three years' worth of reasons, stress, and feeling undervalued, I figured it was time to call it a day. At least for a while. I want a few months to just breathe and not have to wake up at 5am or 6am. Or go to bed at a grandma hour. Or go to bed without Marcus!! Or feel unseen.  That leaves a significant vacuum in my days, one that I'm not unfamiliar with, but I'm trying to approach it differently this time. I'm trying to value this time, rather than be scared of it. I'm usually scared at how long my time in between jobs is going to last, and I stress about whether and when someone is going to hire me. This time, I know I'll get hired. I don't know when, but it's just a question of time. And I don't want to waste this time, I want to treat it as precious and to use it wisely. Jamu in Jogja

When did I first learn about jamu? Eat Pray Love? Was it when we got married in Bali? My curiosity was piqued then. In the intervening years my interest in plant medicine has soared, and since we moved to SG where there's a significant population from Indonesia, and my proximity to jamu became imminently closer, I've been even more curious about jamu.  I stumbled across a jamu workshop as I searched online for things to do during a solo workcation to Yogyakarta. In amongst the batik and silver jewelry making workshops (is this place up my alley or what) was a jamu making workshop. Booked it quicksmart. Naturally I was the only student in my class today, made all the more significant as I discovered that mine was the very first tour these folks have done since the pandemic began!
