As much as I would perhaps like to think otherwise, I think this blog is mostly defunct and now only serves as a random sounding board when I feel the need to output. In a non-facebook and yet more public than journal-writing mode. I've come to the conclusion that there truly is something cathartic and more rewarding about physically writing in a journal rather than typing out thoughts (not that I've done much of that, either). Typing allows me to get my thoughts out in a more stream of consciousness fashion and therefore more quickly (and ironically less thoughtfully?) than when writing with pen and paper. Strange.

I think that when the traveling commences again, I will find again my pen and paper as an old soul mate. My journals kept me company and sane for well over a decade. In the happier, more neutral periods my writing and output stops. These last few years in Sydney have been happy, though certainly not without trial. In fact it feels like one of the most difficult periods I've gone through in my adult life. But life seems to be careening more toward the busy and therefore normal seeming.

A few more friends have come into the fray recently which means I have much more social time and girls time than I've had since arriving here. A few more Americans, a few more Australians. Work has been busy lately and I've been involved in a bit more event planning and the beginnings of some funding applications which is good experience. And it fills the days up, making office time go by quicker and making me feel more productive. I'm one of those people who gets more done the more they have to do. Not to say I thrive on being active all the time because I love my down time. But life is much more interesting when there are things going on.

So there's friend catch-ups, coffees, breakfasts, lunches and dinners. Work is busy, quite a few opening nights lately and donor/patron events. Then more recently I've started down the volunteer lines. A while ago I mentioned having put in two volunteer applications and getting waitlisted by both of them. Well the waitlist has officially come to an end and the recruitment, interviewing and training has begun. In fact, training for one is all day Saturday and training for the other on Sunday. They just had to pick the same weekend, didn't they? I mean, being busy is great but at least one weekend day should be free from meetings! Oh well, taking advantage of being busy while it's there.

This hasn't left much time for hai cha classes and I haven't seen Marcus as much as I'd like, but it all works out in the wash. Work-life balance. That's something I set out to learn more about when my travels began for South America. During the travels there was a bit too much life balance, too little work balance. And I haven't been working as hard as I'd like in the office, but that feels like it's turning around, too. Fingers crossed. When we do come back to the states, I have a feeling we'll both find it a bit more difficult to keep the work balance in check. But no use in worrying about it, we'll take it as it comes.

Looking forward to our trip to the states for Thanksgiving. It'll be great to cook with my sister and to spend time with family and friends. Looking forward to seeing everyone one more time before another year of absence...and then a big reconnection.
