The apartment hunt continues

Real estate agents are my new worst enemy. They are despicable creatures on a power trip who, as it would seem, enjoy making life much more difficult than it needs to be. So. The latest and greatest after our weekend of viewing six (count them six!) apartments on one day--well, there's no great to speak of. We put in applications on three of the different apartments with our fingers crossed on two (one of them had a double-wide oven, it was like a dream come true!). Monday rolled around and we heard back from the real estate agent for the apartment with my dream oven. We had made it to the final application stage with a preferred application. Woo hoo! Tuesday morning comes and we discover that our application has been approved and they want us to come over and put the deposit down that day. More positive news! We asked if it would be possible for us to come over the next day to put in the deposit but they refused, saying we had to go to the office that day. Whatever. Marcus made arrangements to leave work early, got out $400 cash for the deposit and we prepared for the end of the apartment hunting saga. But it was not to be. Tuesday afternoon met us with a phone call from the real estate agency saying that the owners had changed their minds and decided not to use the real estate agency and they were instead going to rent to their own friends. Boo! We weren't happy with this, but honestly there's nothing to be done in that situation except tell the real estate agency to keep our application on file and to let us know if anything else opens up. Yes, yes, yes, agreed. Well, it's the following Monday and the apartment is still being listed on the real estate websites. I made an anonymous phone call to the agency this morning inquiring about viewing times for the apartment in question, and I was told that they're possibly opening up for viewings on Saturday. Let me tell you, if I find out they're showing the place again, they are going to get a piece of my mind!!!

So that's one apartment issue last week. My second favorite apartment still hadn't gotten back in touch with us by Wednesday, so I started calling and hassling for information. I was continuously told that the agents weren't in, they were in meetings, etc. etc. I got no new information. Friday comes and someone calls back Marcus asking when we'd be able to move in. When Marcus said in a few weeks, they huffily got off the phone and we found that they showed the apartment again over the weekend. It took them a week to process our application in the first place. It will take them another week to process this second batch, and then by the time they've found someone who can move in immediately they will have wasted copious amounts of time and effort when they could have just given the apartment to us and waited two weeks for us to move in! Grrr!

Then to top it off, we had made an appointment to go look at another apartment on Friday afternoon. I called the agent to see if we could move the appointment forward by half an hour (this was two hours before the appointment) and she said they were no longer showing it on Friday. Are you kidding me??? She said she'd called Marcus, but his phone didn't show any missed calls from them. Now we have a new appointment to go look at this place at 6:30 tonight.

I am pretty tired of these agents yanking my chain around. We've obviously been approved at least twice (so they say) and then they change their minds. It's getting old and I'd really like to know where I'll be living at the end of the month (not to mention have my weekends back!).

I find that when I put forth positive thoughts into words, it helps bring these things about. Here we go:

We will live in a fantastic new place with a great location at the end of October. We will find a great place, we will find a great place, we will find a great place, we will find a great place, we will find a great place, we will find a great place. We will find a great place, we will find a GREAT place, we will find a great place, we will find a great place. Soon. We will find a great place soon. We will find a great place soon.

There are several pages in my diary filled with positive affirmations repeated again and again. But I think it helps!

This is epic. It occurs to me that if the system
is this messed up there mist be some well known methods of playing back or at least gunning for the owners info directly? Have you googled?

Is that how you have to find apartments in Sydney? Sounds very trying...
